Nature, portraits, community, and causes

Born in Sugarland, Texas, in 2004, Ameer Barnes' journey into the world of photography began at 13 years old when they captured the beauty of a dead rose with their smartphone. This moment ignited a passion within them that would shape their artistic path.

With a drive for self-improvement, Ameer began learning through their own experiences and by the lessons learned through trial and error. Drawing inspiration from artists such as Andrei Tarkovsky, Stephen Shore, and Danny Lyon, Ameer delved deep into portrait, nature, and documentary photography. Later, wanting to expand their knowledge and gain feedback, they went on to take classes at the Houston Center for Photography and Houston Community College. Their work has been featured in the Houston Center for Photography's Learning Curve 16.

Today, they are currently based in the Houston, Texas area, primarily working in digital mediums and continuing to grow and learn about crafting captivating visual narratives.

The camera is an excuse to be someplace you otherwise don't belong. It gives me both a point of connection and a point of separation.
